Cellsius Project H2 – The development of the Lightwing AC4
As we approach the end of our project year, we, Cellsius are proud to showcase significant advancements in developing our Hydrogen-Battery-Hybrid Powertrain for the Swiss Two-seater aircraft, the Lightwing AC4.
Regarding the development of the fuel cell system, we developed and constructed a dedicated hydrogen testing facility. In which we can test the entire fuel cell system. We conducted both subsystem tests, in which we could ensure the integrity of the system. As well as full-scale tests, in which our system could successfully produce up to 8kW of electricity.
Our work on the electrical side of the Powertrain recorded just as many successes. The individual modules of our modular battery were thoroughly tested to ensure battery integrity. These modules will be linked together to form the complete battery in the next weeks. Thanks to Eurocircuits’ high-quality PCBs, we have finalized and thoroughly tested the battery management system (BMS). A major breakthrough could also be recorded in the Power electronics department. The self-developed Inverter assembled and tested. We could successfully drive the motor with a power of up to 15kW, the maximum power, that our testing facility can supply. And as such is ready to be combined with the batteries to be tested with powers up to 80kW. The DC/DC-Converter, which represents the link between the fuel cell system and the Battery, could be assembled and will be tested in the coming weeks.
We look forward to the weeks ahead, in which we will be able to test the remaining component. And finally merge the fuel cell system with the rest of the powertrain.
