RUB Motorsport: The change to an all electric car
We are the student team of the Ruhr-University Bochum: RUB-Motorsport a team of passionate and highly committed students. With the change from a combustion engine to an all-electric racing car, we realised that the complexity of the system has increased significantly. With a large number of necessary control boards, which we develop independently as a team, we found the right partner in Eurocircuits. Their excellent reputation in the industry and their outstanding way of working meant that we could fully appreciate their reliability and speed in producing our PCBs.
Our clear goal for the season was to successfully compete in the dynamic disciplines at FS Netherlands, FS East in Hungary and FS Germany in Hockenheim. Due to technical problems in the Netherlands, we had to rely on a new generation of PCBs. Which was no problem for Eurocircuits, despite the short time until the next event in Hungary. With this new version of PCBs we passed all the technical scrutineering and took part in the dynamic disciplines.
AMS:
The Accumulator Management System (AMS), which guarantees the safety of our battery, is a large part of the printed circuit boards produced. It consists of a master and 12 slaves architecture that monitor the voltage and temperature of each cell. The master and slaves communicate via a bus system that is reliable and easy to adapt to new battery designs in the Future.
TSAL:
Another monitoring system is the TSAL, which consists of a total of 4 boards and monitors, evaluates and displays the current status of the HV system. A special feature required by the regulations is that the TSAL consists only of non-programmable logic. Which has led to creative concepts for reliable data communication between the sub-PCBs of the TSAL.
