The DUT25: Reliability with Eurocircuits

Formula Student Team Delft – DUT25

This year Formula Student Team Delft consists of almost 90 students working on their latest challenger, the DUT25. In the summer of 2025, the team will go to multiple competitions throughout Europe to compete with top universities from all over the world in the biggest student design competition of the world: Formula Student.

This year we strive to achieve our main goal: “To win FSG with a well-integrated car that finishes all events built by one united team”. The emphasis on integration and reliability flows directly into our electronics department. Our engineers are working hard to simplify and standardize the designs we have and make sure they will survive the grueling competition that is Formula Student. Another way we want to achieve this reliability is through a high PCB production quality.

A great example of the integration of the circuit boards in the DUT25 is our revised ‘dashboard’ PCB. This PCB is the brain behind the driver interface. It gets information from the driver via various buttons and rotary switches and sends this information to other control systems in the car. It also drives the screen and LED strip which relay information to the driver about the status of systems in the car such as the accumulator, the motor controllers or the motors. Together with the ergonomics department the electrical engineers design a steering wheel and dashboard that is not only intuitive to use, but also provides useful data to give the DUT25 the edge over the competition during all events.

Due to the size constraints of a Formula Student car, packaging of this PCB is always tight; a steering system, pedalbox, tractive system and a driver all need to fit in our already tight chassis together. This is where Eurocircuits’ highly customizable PCB manufacturing capabilities come into play. Eurocircuits is always able to deliver the specifications we require in a short timeframe, which cuts down on the time needed to test a PCB. This makes them an incredibly valuable partner when competing at the highest level of the Formula Student competitions.

Creating the smallest possible PCB with the functionality that a dashboard must have is difficult to achieve, especially considering the level of reliability and therefore quality it needs to have. With our in house PCB manufacturing station we produce and test all our PCBs early on in the production cycle, after which we can optimize the design and produce and test them again. This iterative process allows Formula Student Team Delft to create the most reliable electronic system we have had so far and this is only possible with the consistent and high quality deliveries of Eurocircuits.
