Brunel Solar Team
We are the Brunel Solar Team, a team of 18 students from the TU Delft with one goal: Winning the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Every year we design, build and race a solar car and participate in solar races. At the end of this year, we will be at the start of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. In this challenge, we race 3000 kilometers through the outback of Australia from Darwin to Adelaide.
There are a lot of challenges that emerge when participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. We are an inexperienced group of students; no one has built (probably will not again) a solar car and a year seems quite a short period of time when doing everything for the first team. Furthermore, apart from racing, a big goal is to test out new technologies within the electric automobility industry. This means that every year, we use entirely new technologies in our car.
Eurocircuits helps us with the production of our custom PCBs, of which there are a lot in our car, all optimized for the highest efficiency in Australian racing conditions. They range from simple boards like the lighting system to the complexity of a custom motor controller that will drive our car with an average speed of over 90km/h. The freedom of producing PCBs allows us to optimize every aspect of the electrical system for our purpose to reduce weight and increase efficiency to make our solar car, Nuna 12, finish first in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge.
