FS FEUP 2025 Season: A New Era of PCB Development and Innovations

As the FS FEUP team prepares for the highly anticipated summer competitions in 2025, including FS Netherlands, FS Portugal, and the prestigious FS Germany, we are excited to share some of the significant developments and innovations we’ve been working on. This season, we are focused on perfecting our new electric car prototype and pushing the boundaries of technology and design, especially in PCB development.

Advancing PCB Technology for Our Next Prototype

Building on the success of our previous efforts, this year we are making a major leap forward in designing and manufacturing our PCBs. After transitioning to four-layer PCBs, we’ve now moved towards integrating mechanical design with our PCBs. This means that, in addition to their electrical function, our PCBs are being designed with custom shapes to perfectly fit the mechanical constraints of our car. This evolution is key to improving the integration of electronic and mechanical systems within the car, which is critical for achieving both high performance and compact design.

We’re thrilled to continue collaborating with Eurocircuits, whose manufacturing expertise gives us confidence that these advanced PCBs will be made to the highest quality standards. The ability to rely on Eurocircuits’ precision and reliability means that we can push the limits of innovation while ensuring the performance and safety of our car. With their support, we are sure our PCBs will meet the demanding requirements of our next-generation prototype.

In parallel with our PCB advancements, we are also developing a Battery Management System and a 600V to 24V converter, capable of delivering 1000W of power. These components are crucial for improving the efficiency, safety, and performance of our car’s electrical system. The BMS will ensure the optimal performance of our battery packs, while the converter will manage the voltage conversion process, enabling more efficient power distribution to various subsystems of the car.

Thanks to the continued support of Eurocircuits, we are able to manufacture and test these systems with confidence. Their involvement in the production of the PCBs for the BMS and the converter will be invaluable as we work towards validating and implementing these technologies in future prototypes.

Looking Ahead to the Competitions

As we prepare for the upcoming competitions in 2025, we are more determined than ever to build on the successes of our previous season. The innovative strides we’ve made in PCB development and electrical systems are setting the stage for FS FEUP’s best performance yet. We are grateful to Eurocircuits for being such an essential part of our journey, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration as we aim to secure top positions in the Netherlands, Portugal, and Germany.

With every step forward, we get closer to our ultimate goal: to establish FS FEUP as top 10 of the Formula Student teams in the world. We are excited for the future, and with the ongoing support of Eurocircuits, we are ready to take on the challenges of 2025 and beyond.
