Driving Innovation: PWR Racing Team Goes Electric

PWR Racing Team is a Formula Student Team that brings together future engineers. Every year, around 80 members of our organization design and build a Formula Student class vehicle to participate in international engineering competitions held on known racetracks around the world.

After 12 years of building combustion-class race cars with numerous successes, we have taken on a new challenge. The time has come to try ourselves in designing fully electric vehicles with autonomous systems. We successfully constructed 3 cars with such a drivetrain. Our latest car – RT14e is a further development of that project. The main goal was to design a reliable platform to test and continue to develop our electric system. It is a great challenge, especially for such a limited time. Last season we participated in FSAE Italy, FS East, FS Germany, and FS Poland competitions. FS East was particularly challenging because we competed there in the driverless category during bad weather conditions. We managed to pass an autonomous inspection for the first time in a team’s history. We also scored 9th place in static events and P17 overall. During FS Poland, which was the first edition of such a competition in our country, we stepped on the highest step of the podium winning numerous categories and the competition’s overall EV classification.

For this year with the RT14e car, we aim to further increase the reliability of our electrical systems and add more functionalities. Our TSAL PCB has undergone the most modifications this season. The logic section was improved to ensure that this PCB serving as a safety indicator was indeed the most reliable board at our car. TSAL LED PCB was also redesigned, using an aluminum core for the first time at our team, aiming for better heat dissipation of the LED board. Both of those PCBs were produced by Eurocircuits.

Merge of the 540V powertrain together with low-voltage electronics, often at the same PCBs, requires boards of great quality. That is why we are glad to have Eurocircuits as our sponsor. With Eurocircuits, we are sure that all manufactured PCBs have much-needed quality and fast shipping times. This, paired with reliability allows us to push the boundaries even further. We are grateful for the support from Eurocircuits and look forward to continued cooperation. This year we are planning to take part in 5 competitions including FS Netherlands, FS Czech, FS Germany, FS Poland and FSAE Italy and we can’t wait for the results.
