Q Solarboat: Innovation Above the Water

QSolarboat is a Dutch racing team competing in international solar boat competitions. Our mission is to push the boundaries of sustainable technology by designing, building and racing an advanced solar-powered boat. What makes our boat unique is that it does not simply sail across the water. Thanks to hydrofoils, the boat rises above the water’s surface during operation, significantly reducing drag while increasing efficiency and speed. This allows us to combine sustainability with high performance on the racecourse.

A successful racing season

Last season was filled with exciting challenges and valuable achievements. We were proud to finish on the podium at two major events: a third-place finish at the Dutch National Solar Boat Championship and a third-place finish at the CoreComm Solar Boat Challenge.
These results are a testament to the hard work, dedication and innovation of our entire team. Every season provides new opportunities to learn, improve and push ourselves further.

Our biggest innovation: a new battery system

One of the projects we are most proud of this season is the development of our completely new battery pack. Designing and building our own battery system was a major undertaking. The new battery required us to develop the largest PCB we have ever used. In addition, the PCB had to handle significantly higher currents than our previous designs, creating a new engineering challenge for the team. The main PCB serves as the foundation of our battery management system. Mounted on top of it are two additional PCBs that allow us to monitor and analyse battery data in real time. During races, this information is crucial. Accurate battery monitoring helps us make informed decisions and maximise the performance of the boat throughout the competition.

Working together with Eurocircuits

Innovation is never a solo effort. At QSolarboat, we strongly believe in the power of collaboration, and Eurocircuits has been an important partner in helping us turn our ideas into reality. For the development of our new battery system, we relied on Eurocircuits for the production of our PCBs. Their quality, reliability and fast delivery enabled us to move quickly from design to testing and implementation. This was especially important during the development of our new battery system, where multiple iterations and tight deadlines required a dependable manufacturing partner. The collaboration with Eurocircuits allows us to focus on what matters most: developing innovative technology and continuously improving our boat.

Looking ahead

With another exciting season ahead, we are already working on new developments and improvements for our boat.
