Solar Boat Twente in Monaco
During the year the electronics sub-team worked together with Eurocircuits to create the PCBs of Solar Boat Twente. These PCBs from Eurocircuits helped us by creating some measurement/testing boards. Which helped us by measuring currents in our system and making design decisions. Next to this, the PCBs are also still being used in our Maximum power point trackers, steering wheel and cooling system.
After a year of preparation the team prepared for the world championship solar boat racing in Monaco. A few days before the races started we took the boat for some test rides in Monaco to make sure that everything was functioning as intended. The last testing day there were quite some big waves and it was an exciting moment to watch the boat flying over these waves. Unfortunately the next day one of the struts broke during the qualifying round. The team was luckily able to fix the damages before the race started, however it was not possible to make the boat fly again.
However the one working strut was still installed in the boat in order to create a pivot point. Making it easier for the boat to turn, which helped us a lot in the slalom for example. After a few close races Solar Boat Twente was head to head in the match race for third position. By winning the race we managed to secure a podium spot and finishing Monaco in third position.
