UCD Formula Student 2025: Advancing Design and Performance

UCD Formula Student: A Season of Innovation and Development
UCD Formula Student, the University College Dublin Formula Student Team, will once again be competing in the Formula Student UK competition in Silverstone. Our team of 72 students have been working tirelessly for the last year to get our car ready to compete. These are dedicated students from across a wide variety of engineering, computer science and business degrees.

We will once again be competing in the FS class of the FSUK competition. We are hoping to expand our knowledge, gain inspiration for future cars and expand on previous successes including our second place finish in the Business Plan Presentation Event in the 2023 season.
A technical advancement made by this year’s team was the development of a new design for our charging shutdown circuit. This circuit is used in our battery charging cart to ensure that charging is shut down safely if a fault were to occur. The circuit includes the accumulator, the IMD, the AMS, the charger and an emergency stop button. The button is normally closed when charging is occurring but when pressed the circuit will open the relays in the accumulator and charging will stop. This circuit plays a vital role in protecting our Electrical Safety Officers who will be responsible for the battery as well the components used in our high voltage systems.

Through the excellent help provided by Eurocircuits, our team was able to make this new design a reality. This circuit will be a vital part of our charging system and will be installed on the brand new charging cart we have designed for this year’s competition. We are very grateful for the help that Eurocircuits has provided our team this season and we are excited for the role they will play in our success at this year’s competition in July.
