Unibo Motorsport on Track to Triumph

Unibo Motorsport, the racing team of the University of Bologna, is a reality where more than 300 students from various fields of study combine the skills acquired at university with those learned within the team to compete annually against students from all over the world in international races on the most prestigious circuits in Europe.
In particular, the season has just concluded with excellent successes achieved by the team in summer competitions, where they participated with Athena, the electric-powered vehicle presented at the June Unveiling. Athena participated in July at the Formula Student Austria competition, one of the most prestigious in its category, held at the Spielberg circuit, the Red Bull Ring. Despite encountering some challenges during this first race of the season, the team managed to complete all static and dynamic events, finishing the 22 laps of the circuit on the last day, the most challenging of the events, the Endurance.

The team also participated in Formula Student Spain, held at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona. During this race, we encountered issues with some components of the passive balancing circuit in the BMS. In order to participate in the dynamic events, we were forced to remove these components. Although this solution did not completely resolve the issue, we are currently considering modifications to the BMS PCB to implement an active battery pack balancing system, which would significantly improve the accumulator’s condition. Despite the problems, Athena excelled in all dynamic events, winning first place Overall in its category.
The season concluded with Formula ATA, held at the Varano de’ Melegari Circuit from September 4th to 8th, in which both team vehicles participated. Genesi, the combustion-powered car, which is set to become hybrid for the upcoming season, stood out in Class 3, participating only in static events such as Design, Cost, and Business Plan, winning the first place.

Unibo Motorsport is fully satisfied with the successes achieved this season. The main goal was to complete the car’s construction and make it more performant and reliable. Thanks to the hard work and sacrifices made, the season’s objectives have been successfully achieved, and the team is even more determined to reach new milestones in the upcoming season.
